Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate from the recent Kogi State elections, has appealed to the youth of Nigeria to halt their ongoing protests against the economic hardships facing the nation.

Recognizing the powerful expression of discontent from the youth, Ajaka stressed the need to shift towards peaceful conversations to address their grievances.

In a statement entitled “Fellow Nigerian Youths, Your Voices Have Resounded Today,” which was distributed to the media in Abuja, Ajaka commended the courage and resolve of Nigerian youths in confronting economic adversities and advocating for an enhanced quality of life.

He acknowledged the prevailing challenges, stating, “It is clear that our situation is far from ideal. Therefore, it is hard to entirely fault the youth for taking to the streets to voice their frustrations.”

He emphasized, “Your sentiments have resonated nationwide and reached our President. It is now essential to explore the possibility of peaceful dialogue. Protests like these can often be exploited by those with harmful intentions. Resorting to violence, theft, and the destruction of public and private property is not the appropriate way to express your concerns.”

“It is vital to remember that the intention of this protest is to peacefully elevate your voices, convey your discontent, and capture the President’s attention to urgently tackle the prevailing hardships in our nation. We must remain focused on this honorable aim.

“I empathize with your urgency and dissatisfaction, but let us not forget that we are all Nigerians, united as brothers and sisters with a shared aspiration: a brighter future for our beloved country.”

“It is through constructive dialogue that we can realize our objectives. We have a President who is attentive to our grievances and has clearly heard your concerns. I am optimistic that he will respond appropriately.”

Ajaka cautioned that continuing the protests in their current form could lead to further division, chaos, and unnecessary loss of life and property.

He reiterated, “Let us not allow our frustrations to obscure the fact that there is a peaceful route to achieving the change we seek. It is time to allow our government the chance to address our collective concerns.”

“Remember, our unity is our strength. Together we can construct the Nigeria we all yearn for. Let us choose peace, engage in dialogue, and work towards a brighter future for our great nation.”“This protest must cease immediately. May peace and harmony reign in our land. God bless Nigeria.”
