The Rivers State Police Command arrested a security guard in the early hours of Wednesday for allegedly strangling his partner in an attempt to facilitate a robbery at their workplace. The incident occurred overnight at a commercial establishment in the Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout, a prominent business hub in Port Harcourt.
According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Ezedigbo, conspired with a group of robbers to gain access to the company’s premises. His partner, Michael, reportedly discovered the plan and attempted to thwart the criminal act. In a desperate bid to silence Michael and ensure the success of the robbery, Ezedigbo allegedly strangled him during an altercation.
The robbers, however, failed to execute their plan as the company’s alarm system was triggered, alerting local law enforcement.
Police officers swiftly responded to the alarm, arriving on the scene to find Michael’s lifeless body and Ezedigbo attempting to flee. Ezedigbo was apprehended and taken into custody for questioning.
Preliminary investigations revealed his involvement in the robbery plot and the subsequent murder of his partner.
The company, whose identity has been withheld pending further investigation, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured full cooperation with law enforcement. “We are devastated by the loss of our dedicated employee, Michael. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time,” a company representative said.
Ezedigbo is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The police have launched a manhunt for the accomplices involved in the failed robbery attempt.
The public is advised to remain calm as the investigation continues, and anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Rivers State Police Command.
