American singer and actress Selena Gomez recently revealed the intense dedication she put into preparing for her role in the new Spanish-language musical, Emilia Pérez.

During a Q&A session at the Telluride Film Festival on Sunday, September 1, 2024, Gomez shared that she took a significant break from her music career and other projects to fully immerse herself in the role.

“I stopped working on my music and anything else, and solely focused on this [musical]. Every day, I’d wake up and rehearse the lines over and over again. And I’d call in the middle of the night, my Spanish teacher,” the 32-year-old pop star explained.

Gomez plays the character Jessi Del Monte in the film, and she described the experience of singing in the musical as “therapeutic.” The first trailer for the film, a Spanish-language French production also starring Zoe Saldaña, was released by Netflix on August 26.
