Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, has characterized the recent shift of members from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a strong indicator of the political landscape in Kano State leading up to the 2027 elections.
During a welcoming event, Senator Jibrin greeted a group of defectors from the NNPP, which included supporters of the party’s former presidential candidate and national figure, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The defections were spearheaded by Yahaya Sa’idu Kwankwaso, a former councillor from Kwankwaso Ward in Madobi Local Government, and Hon. Abdulhamid Ahmad Diso, a former deputy speaker of Gwale LGA, alongside Hon. Shu’aibu Isa Kubaraci and their followers.
Additionally, a key member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Garba Alhassan Dawaki, led the transition of former councillors and PDP affiliates from Dawakin Kudu LGA to the APC.
According to Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau’s media adviser, the defectors expressed that their decision to join the APC was largely influenced by the Senator’s notable developmental initiatives in Kano State.
In welcoming the new members, Senator Barau promised them equitable treatment and equal chances within the party, highlighting the APC as an inclusive organization that offers opportunities for all.
“The influx of NNPP members into the APC points to the future of politics in 2027,” he declared.
“Currently, the NNPP has lost its significance in Kano North, and in Kano South, the APC is poised to absorb what remains of the NNPP, which has dwindled to a few neighborhoods in Kano Central.”
Senator Barau also committed to collaborating with the new members to enhance the development of Kano State while supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for national progress and prosperity.
