The Nigerian Senate has postponed its scheduled screening of ministerial nominees, originally set for today, to allow additional time for nominees to complete necessary documentation and pre-screening processes. The screening will now take place on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 12:00 pm.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Senate Matters, confirmed the delay. He emphasized that the adjustment provides nominees with an opportunity to finalize their paperwork.
The Office of the Special Adviser expressed appreciation for the public’s understanding, noting that the procedural requirements align with Section 147 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Last week, President Tinubu formally requested the Senate’s expedited review and confirmation of his seven ministerial nominees, whose appointments were announced in Abuja. These nominees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi for Labour and Employment, Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu for State, Foreign Affairs, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole for Industry, Trade and Development, Idi Muktar Maiha for Livestock Development, Rt Hon Yusuf Abdullahi Ata for State, Housing, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad for State, Education.
As of today, the nominees are expected to complete final documentation, allowing for prompt review when the Senate reconvenes.
