Baltasar Engonga, the former Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), is currently being held in Malabo’s Black Beach Prison.

Engonga, 54, was recently arrested following a major scandal involving over 400 explicit tapes reportedly featuring him with the wives of prominent national figures.

The scandal surfaced amid a fraud investigation into Engonga, prompting ANIF officials to search his home and office.

During the search, investigators allegedly uncovered numerous CDs containing explicit recordings of Engonga with various married women.

The tapes have since leaked online, causing a national outcry and intense media scrutiny. As the controversy unfolded, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo issued a decree on November 4th formally dismissing Engonga, citing “irregularities in his duties and inappropriate family and social conduct incompatible with public office.”

A video of Engonga, handcuffed at both his hands and feet, circulated widely on social media on Friday, documenting his recent court appearance.

According to the French blog Afrikmatin, Engonga was officially removed from his role on November 6th and transferred to Malabo Central Prison, where he now faces charges of corruption and embezzlement.

Further reports from the online newspaper UGStandard indicate that the explicit videos began circulating on social media networks while Engonga was already detained.

Dubawa, a fact-checking organization, confirmed in a Wednesday report that Engonga remains held at Black Beach Prison on corruption-related charges, as initially reported by Equatorial Guinea’s state television, TVGE.
