Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), along with current and former governors, Senators, and other key members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North Central region, are set to convene in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Saturday to tackle the ongoing internal crises within the party.

Notable attendees are expected to include the governors of Kwara, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, and Niger States.

Sources indicate that the primary focus of the meeting will be to discuss the dissatisfaction within the North Central zone following the reassignment of the APC National Chairman position. Previously held by former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the chairmanship was reassigned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Kano State in the North West last year, which has led to feelings of marginalization within the North Central region.

This re-zoning decision has caused significant unrest within the party, prompting calls for reconsideration.

An insider disclosed that the stakeholders plan to develop a unified stance to present to President Tinubu regarding the chairmanship matter.

The governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatai Abdulrazak, is expected to lead the meeting.

Recently, the dissatisfaction escalated when APC members protested at the party’s National Secretariat against the leadership of the current APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. The protesters were eventually dispersed by Ganduje’s supporters and APC security personnel.

Party sources mentioned that the outcome of the Lafia meeting will be crucial for the future direction of the APC in the coming weeks.

“As you know, the President has kept quiet for some time on the crisis in the party. He is waiting to get reports from the zones on the state of the party before making decisions. And the North Central would present the resolution of their meeting to him,” a party source said.
