Senator Shehu Sani has urged the Nigerian government to insist on a comprehensive investigation by U.S. authorities regarding an incident involving Vice President Kashim Shettima’s aircraft at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York.

A statement from presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga revealed that the vice president’s plane was impacted by a “foreign object,” which caused damage to the cockpit window and led to the cancellation of Shettima’s scheduled attendance at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit in Samoa.

In a social media post, Sani emphasized the necessity for transparency and accountability from the U.S., particularly given JFK Airport’s reputation as a high-security aviation facility.

He remarked on the unusual nature of the occurrence and stressed the need for an in-depth investigation into the events surrounding it.

Additionally, Senator Sani expressed relief that both Shettima and all individuals on board were unharmed.

He stated, “The incident at JFK Airport in New York, where a ‘foreign object’ reportedly struck and damaged the cockpit window of Vice President Shettima’s plane, must be taken seriously. “Nigeria should call for a detailed investigation and a clear explanation from U.S. authorities. Such an event occurring in one of the world’s most secure aviation environments is unprecedented.

“We are grateful to the Almighty for ensuring the safety of the Vice President and the crew,” he concluded.
