Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, has expressed her support for the anti-tax hike protests currently happening in Kenya.

Kenyan youths have taken to the streets in large-scale demonstrations, branded ‘RejectFinanceBill2024,’ to oppose the proposed tax increases. Amnesty Kenya reported that five individuals were shot dead and numerous others injured during clashes between police and protesters outside the parliament building in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Reacting to the situation on her X handle, Simi voiced her solidarity with the protesters. She stated, “I stand with the people of Kenya. It is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights. Godspeed and Strength. #RejectFinanceBill2024.”

In a series of additional posts, she continued: “Wow. When you’ve had enough, the fight is almost inevitable. African leaders – haven’t you done enough? I can’t wait for the day Africa is not a weapon fashioned against Africans. All of this amazing Black power and human resource, but the majority are not likely to thrive unless they run.”
