The Sokoto State HISBA Board has intercepted and confiscated over 200 cartons of liquid substances suspected to be alcoholic beverages at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.

Addressing journalists at the HISBA office on Wednesday, the state HISBA Commander, Usman Jatau, revealed the seized items and reiterated the board’s commitment to ensuring residents adhere to prescribed regulations.

Commander Jatau disclosed that no individual has come forward to claim ownership of the confiscated substances. He noted that the HISBA Board plans to consult with the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General to determine the appropriate course of action.

Outlining the rules and regulations, Jatau emphasized that the guidelines are not intended to target individuals or create unrest but to serve as principles for maintaining order and peace within the state.

“I appeal to residents to fear Allah (SWT) in all dealings and avoid prohibited activities such as unnecessary mingling between males and females,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of adhering to Islamic teachings, including appropriate dress codes, lawful social interactions, and shunning immoral acts. Jatau cautioned against using hidden locations to engage in unethical behavior and condemned acts of cheating or assault among Muslims.

“All ceremonies, celebrations, and anniversaries must align with Sharia law. Selling or distributing illicit substances or alcohol at public gatherings, events, or ceremonies is strictly prohibited,” he added.

The HISBA Board reiterated its mission to uphold Sharia principles while fostering a harmonious and morally upright society in Sokoto State.
