Umara, the son of Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, has strongly denied accusations that he was involved in a murder in India. These claims emerged on social media, suggesting that Umara, who is a student in New Delhi, got into a violent altercation at a nightclub, resulting in the death of a Chinese national. The rumors stated that Umara allegedly smashed a bottle on the victim during a dispute over a woman.
In response, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Zulum on New Media, released a statement on Wednesday, clarifying that none of the governor’s sons were involved in any criminal activities. He emphasized that no arrests or charges had been made against them and advised the public to be cautious about the information they consume and share.
On Thursday, Umara himself addressed the allegations in a short video posted on social media. He called the accusations false and unfounded, asserting that they were attempts to discredit his father. Speaking from the Government House in Maiduguri, he stated:
“Dear esteemed Nigerians, I am Umara Babagana Umara Zulum. I am here to address the damaging falsehoods against me. It has come to my notice that there is a baseless accusation saying I killed someone at a nightclub. This is not true. They want to tarnish my father’s name. I have been with my family for the past two months, right here in Maiduguri.”
