The Spanish female Olympics team on Sunday defeated their Nigeria counter at the group stages of this year’s football event of the Olympics.

Nigeria suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Spain thanks to Alexia Putellas’ specialty that separated the sides.

Putellas scored a breathtaking goal from a dead ball situation, curling home a wonderful free kick to send Spain into the quarter finals.

The game which was played in Nantes witnessed remarkable performances from both sides as Nigeria once again failed to convert their chances which has proven to hunt them back.

Nigeria’s missed chances started in their first game when they played against Brazil and continued in that same fate against a world best side in the female category.

Nigeria will need a win against Japan in their final group game for a hope of qualifying as one of the best third placed teams of the event.

Spain took top of the group with six points from two games and waited for the result against Brazil and Japan to really know who tops the group before they both meet in the final group game when Spain will be playing for fun after already qualifying from the group.
