The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, will engage with Nigerian youth groups and organizations at a town hall meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 1st August 2024, at the National Assembly.

This event will coincide with a 10-day nationwide protest initiated by various interest groups, running from 1st to 10th August 2024.

The town hall, organized in collaboration with YIAGA Africa and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), is a key component of the Legislative Agenda for the 10th House of Representatives. The agenda emphasizes sustained youth engagement and the promotion of youth political participation, representation, and inclusion in governance and decision-making.

According to a statement from the Speaker’s Media Office, the meeting will bring together youth leaders, representatives from various youth organizations, students from tertiary institutions, young professionals, entrepreneurs, civil society organizations focused on youth development, members of the House Committees on Youth Affairs, and Youths in Parliament.

The town hall aims to provide a platform for direct dialogue, allowing young Nigerians to express their concerns, share their ideas, and engage with legislative leaders on issues affecting their lives and futures. It is intended to bridge the gap between policymakers and the younger generation, ensuring that policies and laws are inclusive and responsive to the specific needs of the youth.

The 10th House’s Legislative Agenda recognizes the significant youth demographic in Nigeria and highlights the importance of leveraging young people’s potential to address various issues. By fostering active youth involvement in political processes, the House seeks to ensure that young voices are heard and considered in law and policy formulation.

The commitment reflects an understanding that the energy, creativity, and perspectives of the youth are crucial for fostering a dynamic and responsive governance system. The town hall is part of the 10th House’s efforts to empower the next generation and drive forward innovative solutions that align with the needs and aspirations of Nigeria’s young population.
