Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly struck a deal with Bournemouth for the acquisition of forward Dominic Solanke, according to the PA news agency.
The North London club has been actively seeking attacking reinforcements throughout the summer, and Solanke has emerged as their top choice, prompting intensified negotiations with the Cherries.
As of Friday afternoon, talks have reached a swift conclusion, with Tottenham expected to pay an initial fee of £55 million for Solanke’s transfer, plus an additional £10 million in performance-related add-ons.
The one-cap England international missed Bournemouth’s recent friendly victory over Rayo Vallecano due to a minor foot injury, raising questions about his future with the club.
Solanke is poised to become Bournemouth’s record sale, surpassing the previous highest transfer, Nathan Ake’s £40 million move to Manchester City in 2020. Club owner Bill Foley previously indicated that Solanke’s contract, which runs until 2027, contains a release clause estimated at £65 million.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou approved the pursuit of Solanke following what was arguably the best season of the 26-year-old’s career, during which he netted 21 goals across all competitions, including 19 in the Premier League. His contributions also included impressive pressing and link-up play that caught the attention of many.
This move to Tottenham represents a significant opportunity for Solanke, who has previously been part of Chelsea’s youth setup before moving to Liverpool in 2017. Although his time at Anfield was limited, he has played a crucial role in helping Bournemouth maintain their Premier League status over the past two seasons, and he is now eager to seize this unique chance.
While Postecoglou remained tight-lipped about Solanke during a press briefing on Friday, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola candidly acknowledged the potential impact of Solanke’s departure.
“I anticipated this would be the first question! I know discussions are ongoing,” Iraola remarked. “Dom is an incredibly vital player for us. He contributes significantly to our scoring but offers much more beyond just goals. He plays a comprehensive role in every aspect of our game, and his absence would certainly be felt.”
As Solanke prepares for a medical examination at Tottenham, Bournemouth is already shifting focus to identify a suitable replacement, having anticipated this scenario following his standout season.
