In a terrible incident that has shocked the community, a woman in Adamawa State is accused of a cruel act against her two young stepdaughters. On May 14, 2024, at the Federal Housing Estate in the Girei Local Government Area, Rachel Geoffrey allegedly set the hands of her stepdaughters, aged three and seven, on fire because they ate food without her permission.

Witnesses say the children’s cries could be heard throughout the neighborhood. A neighbor, Amina Usman, who was one of the first to help, said, “I heard the screams and ran over. What I saw was beyond horrifying. The children were tied up, their little hands burning. I couldn’t believe my eyes. How could anyone do this to innocent children?”

Rachel Geoffrey reportedly tied the hands of Ijadai and Genesis Geoffrey and set them on fire because they ate food that was meant for their father. This act has left the local community and the whole country in shock and sorrow.

Another resident, Maryam Bello, shared her feelings, “Those poor girls were just hungry. No child should have to go through such pain and fear. This woman must face the law for what she has done.”

The incident has started a big conversation about child abuse and the need to protect children in Nigeria. Advocacy groups are calling for stronger laws and better enforcement to make sure children are safe.

As the investigation continues, the community is demanding justice. The tragic event has drawn attention from national and international child rights organizations, showing the urgent need for changes to protect all children.
