The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four individuals by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday evening on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani.

According to the statement, the victims included one resident of Gumki and three staff members of Airtel Communications Nigeria Limited who were working on a surveillance mast installation for the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The attack occurred on January 10, 2025, at approximately 8:47 p.m., at a construction site in Gumki, a community near the Nigeria-Niger Republic border.

The statement revealed that the bandits stormed the site and killed four people.

In response, CP Bello Sani and the Kebbi State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, swiftly mobilized to the scene, evacuating the victims’ bodies to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

The Commissioner of Police immediately reviewed the security architecture in the area and deployed additional tactical teams to address the situation.

“The CP charged the tactical teams to decisively deal with suspected Lakurawa bandits operating in the area,” the statement noted.

To further strengthen security and restore calm, CP Sani convened a meeting with critical stakeholders in the region, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and relevant information to aid their operations.
