Olufemi allegedly charged for an act of sexual assault on an eight-year-old girl in Ikere Ekiti sometime in 1999. My teacher and our neighbour were the defendant, according to the victim’s testimony. He would caress my chest every time he visited me at home I had no clue about his intentions until he sexually assaulted me in our living room when my mother left us alone in Lagos.
He took off my garment and wiped it to get rid of the blood and sperm and discarded it, I later ran to our neighbor crying, they believed I had lost my mother but I did not disclose the truth. After that, I quit school because I couldnt focus on my studies anymore. I felt scared whenever I noticed him in the classroom. He reached out to me on Facebook around 2012, he asked to be my friend and I refused. In 2023, he continued to disturb me so I informed the authorities and was told to disregard him. After that, he began sending me scary and irritating videos and messages, reminding me of the bad thing that happened before. I had reached my breaking point and resolved to pursue legal action against him.
The prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemi, presented evidence to support his argument by calling two witnesses and showing a statement from the accused, a flash drive of his messages with the complainant, a petition, and screenshots of his chats.
Justice Lekan Ogunmoye ruled that the victim could not have given her consent to the sexual intercourse. Being only eight years old, she was too young to give permission for sexual activity. The prosecution wins the case and the defendant is convicted of the crime announced.
