In a recent announcement, the Oyo State government has officially postponed the teachers’ recruitment interviews scheduled for August 20, 2024. This decision comes from the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to respect Isese Day, a significant public holiday celebrated on the same date in Oyo State.
Isese Day is an annual celebration that honors the rich indigenous Yoruba culture and traditions. It emphasizes the importance of preserving Yoruba heritage and is particularly meaningful to those who follow the Yoruba traditional religion. Recognizing this cultural day, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, made a prompt decision to move the interviews to a later date.
The interviews are now set to take place on August 26, 2024. In an official statement released on August 13, Adeniran highlighted the need to respect cultural practices, ensuring that all candidates have a fair opportunity to participate in the recruitment process. He stated, “In light of this observation, the affected local government areas whose interviews were originally slated for Tuesday, August 20, 2024, have been rescheduled to Monday, August 26, 2024.”
The local government areas impacted by this change include Saki West, Saki East, Irepo, Oriire, Olorunsogo, Orelope, Ogbomoso North, and Ogbomoso South. This rescheduling has been positively received by various stakeholders, who appreciate the sensitivity shown by the educational authorities in accommodating cultural events.
The revised schedule for the teachers’ recruitment interviews is as follows:
Wednesday, August 14, 2024: Egbeda and Atisbo
Thursday, August 15, 2024: Akinyele, Afijio, and Ibarapa Central
Friday, August 16, 2024: Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola, Ibarapa East, Ibarapa North, Lagelu, and Iwajowa
Monday, August 19, 2024: Ido and Ibadan South West
Wednesday, August 21, 2024: Atiba, Oyo East, Oyo West, Surulere, and Ogo-Oluwa
Thursday, August 22, 2024: Ibadan South-East, Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East, and Ibadan North-West
Friday, August 23, 2024: Oluyole and Ona Ara
Monday, August 26, 2024: Saki West, Saki East, Irepo, Oriire, Olorunsogo, Orelope, Ogbomoso North, and Ogbomoso South
Dr. Adeniran urged all candidates and local government areas to adhere strictly to the new timetable. The decision to reschedule has not only shown respect for cultural practices but has also ensured that every candidate can fully engage in the interview process without the added pressure of conflicting commitments.
As Oyo State continues to balance modern educational needs with traditional values, this move serves as a reminder of the importance of cultural awareness in public administration. The state’s educational authorities are committed to promoting inclusivity and respect for all cultural observances, setting a positive example for other regions to follow.
