Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, known by his stage name Terry G, recently disclosed that Wizkid’s legal team contacted him with a request to remove his song “Mary Jane” from digital streaming platforms. Terry G shared this revelation during a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast.
Terry G acknowledged that he did not obtain proper clearance from Wizkid’s team before releasing the track, which appears to have been recorded some years ago. He admitted, “I didn’t clear the song I made with Wizkid [‘Mary Jane’] because, in my era, we don’t clear songs; we do collaborations based on love. The lawyers have reached out to me to take the song down.”
Understanding the importance of professionalism in the music industry, Terry G emphasized the necessity of following proper procedures. He stated, “To be honest, we’ve got to be professional and do paperwork.
Because if that doesn’t work, nothing will work. So trust me, I have pulled down the song. For the platforms that are yet to take it down, I will make sure it is taken down on those platforms, too, soon.”
