The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has reaffirmed its commitment to providing sustained funding for Nigerian Army institutions, in alignment with its mandate.
This was disclosed by TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa.
Echono acknowledged the military’s pivotal role in supporting educational institutions across the country, especially in conflict-ridden regions, praising their dedication and sacrifices.
Echono lauded the Armed Forces under the leadership of General Musa for their continuous efforts in safeguarding the nation, with special commendation for their commitment to addressing security challenges and protecting educational facilities.
He also highlighted the military’s success in curbing militant attacks and kidnappings within tertiary institutions.
“The military has been highly supportive of our educational system,” Echono stated. “We deeply appreciate the sacrifices made to ensure uninterrupted learning, even during conflicts and in difficult environments.
The reduction in incidents of violence and disruptions in recent times is notable, allowing schools to operate more safely.”
Echono further emphasized the importance of research and development as a critical area for collaboration, particularly in security services and defense industry development.
He pledged TETFund’s continued support for military educational institutions, including the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and the Nigerian Army University in Biu.
In response, General Musa assured that the Armed Forces would maintain its strong backing of educational advancements in the country.
He called for enhanced collaboration between the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and TETFund, stressing the potential benefits of local arms production, which could reduce foreign currency expenditure and create jobs.
General Musa also expressed gratitude for TETFund’s ongoing support to the NDA and other military educational institutions, acknowledging its positive impact on the institutions’ capacity and performance.
He reiterated the military’s dedication to securing educational facilities, stating, “One of our key priorities is to ensure schools remain secure, as education is crucial to the nation’s progress.”
