On Monday, a violent clash in the Maiyanga district, located in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, led to the tragic deaths of three individuals. Reports indicated that these victims were ambushed and killed by armed assailants while they were making their way back from Kwall, which is also in Bassa.
A local resident of Maiyanga, Danlami Dangu, shared that the attack took place around 7 PM. According to him, “The people were killed at Maiyanga while returning from Kwall around 7 o’clock on Monday evening.” He mentioned that the attackers used machetes to carry out the killings in a bid to avoid drawing the attention of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) personnel, who were stationed approximately two kilometres away from the scene of the attack.
The names of the deceased were provided by Danlami Dangu, such as Bala Ruhuwie, Gawah Gudu, and Na’ago, whose last names remain unknown.It was also reported that the presence of soldiers in the area helped to prevent any immediate retaliatory attacks.
When reached for a statement, Major Samson Zhakom, the spokesperson for OPSH, noted that he had not yet received a briefing from the sector commander regarding the incident. He assured that more details would be provided, but at the time of reporting, no additional information had been released.
