The personal belongings of Martin Kaufmann, Vice President (Products) at Thuraya Satellite Communications, were reported missing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday.

The news was disclosed during an official partnership event between Thuraya and TSAT Communications in the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday.

Thuraya, the sixth-largest satellite operator globally, covers over 150 countries, offering advanced technologies for critical communication across land, sea, and air. Kaufmann, who usually dons a suit and tie, attended the event dressed in a black jacket and grey trousers, drawing attention to his uncharacteristic attire.

Kaufmann confirmed the mishap but expressed confidence in the airport’s response. “Yes, this happened yesterday (Tuesday) when I came into the country. But I have been told not to worry; it will be found and returned to me today,” he assured.

The announcement at the event prompted several dignitaries to approach Kaufmann, offering their support. The compere, Dorkong Rimdan, added a lighthearted note, joking, “In case your luggage is not found, Mr. Kaufmann, I have a few dresses. I don’t mind sparing you some. But we do hope you find it, sir.”

Efforts to reach officials from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development for comments proved unsuccessful. They directed inquiries to the Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Minister, Tunde Moshood.

When contacted, Moshood expressed surprise, stating, “Did you say it happened here in Abuja? I am not aware. But I am going to find out. Let me talk to them first.”
