President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), effective from December 15, 2024. This follows the expiration of the tenure of Haliru Nababa, the outgoing Controller-General.

The Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire & Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Ja’afaru Ahmed, announced the appointment in a statement on Friday in Abuja. Nwakuche, born on November 26, 1966, hails from Oguta, Imo State.

Prior to his new role, he served as the Deputy Controller-General in charge of the Training and Staff Development Directorate. He is also a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and holds the national honor of Member of the Federal Republic.

President Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nwakuche will leverage his extensive experience to drive the transformative goals of the NCoS.

In related news, the Federal Government has praised Haliru Nababa for his exemplary leadership and significant contributions during his tenure as NCoS Controller-General, a position he held since May 10, 2021. At a pulling-out ceremony in Abuja, Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo commended Nababa for advancing the core mandate of the service, emphasizing his focus on officer and inmate welfare, security, and capacity building.

In his valedictory speech, Nababa reflected on his 34-year career with the service, thanking President Tinubu, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, and other stakeholders for their support. He advised his successor to lead with wisdom, integrity, and loyalty, aiming to further enhance the service’s legacy.

Nababa’s leadership was marked by notable achievements, including improvements in security, logistics, healthcare, and staff promotion, all of which have helped position the NCoS for continued success.
