President Bola Tinubu has officially enacted the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill, which dramatically increases the salaries of judicial officers at both federal and state levels by an impressive 300%. This significant legislative change comes after the National Assembly greenlit the bill back in June.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Senator Basheer Lado, who serves as the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, highlighted that the new law provides enhanced salaries, allowances, and benefits for judicial officers and their staff. The Act amends the Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, No. 6 of 2002, removing previous provisions specific to Judicial Office Holders.
Lado hailed the signing of the bill as a monumental milestone, underscoring President Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of Nigeria’s workforce. He emphasized that this decision showcases Tinubu’s resolve to ensure equitable compensation for employees, especially those in crucial roles.
Key features of the Act include the establishment of new salary structures, allowances, and additional benefits for judicial officers. It also revises the earlier mentioned Act to eliminate provisions relating to judicial positions.
Lado further noted, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCON has once again demonstrated his steadfast dedication to the well-being of Nigeria’s workforce by approving the revised salary and allowance framework for judicial office holders.”
This groundbreaking decision is perceived as a pivotal advancement in strengthening the justice system’s integrity and establishing a new paradigm of leadership that genuinely honors the contributions and efforts of all Nigerian workers.
