President Bola Tinubu has instructed the police to take immediate action to restore and maintain peace, law, and order in Rivers State following reports of arson targeting local government secretariats.

In a statement issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser for Information and Strategy, President Tinubu expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions after last Saturday’s local government council election, particularly incidents of arson and explosions. The President called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders, and their supporters to exercise restraint and adhere to the rule of law.

He urged all political actors to discourage their supporters from resorting to violence or destructive actions. “Law enforcement agencies must bring the situation under control,” President Tinubu emphasized, adding that it is essential to safeguard public institutions, which were built with taxpayer funds, from vandalism.

He stressed that acts of self-help and violence have no place in a democracy, particularly after 25 years of continuous democratic governance.

The President reiterated that any political disputes should be resolved through the judiciary, and this election should be no exception.

President Tinubu’s directive underscores his commitment to maintaining the security of public infrastructure and promoting the peaceful resolution of political conflicts through legal channels.
