President Bola Tinubu will depart Nigeria on Sunday to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he will join leaders from across the region to discuss critical issues in the Middle East.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, which will focus on the current situation in the Middle East,” presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced on Sunday.
Set to commence on Monday, November 11, 2024, the summit is hosted at the invitation of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, marking a continuation of last year’s gathering in Riyadh.
According to Onanuga, “During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to address the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict, emphasizing Nigeria’s strong call for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.”
In addition to advocating for peace, Tinubu will urge “renewed efforts to revive the two-state solution as a pathway to lasting peace in the region,” Onanuga added.
Accompanying the President on this diplomatic mission are key Nigerian officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, and Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Mohammed Mohammed.
“After the conclusion of the summit, President Tinubu will return to Abuja,” Onanuga confirmed. The summit’s agenda will focus on fostering dialogue and stability amid the challenges facing the Middle East, with Tinubu’s attendance underscoring Nigeria’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.
