President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, to extend his condolences to residents affected by the recent devastating floods on Monday.
The president, who returned to Nigeria the previous night after diplomatic visits to the UAE, China, and the UK, landed at the Air Force Base in Borno at 3:20 p.m. He was warmly received by Governor Babagana Zulum upon arrival.
During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to meet with the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar-Garbai El-Kaneni, before visiting one of the camps housing displaced persons to offer his support and address their concerns.
The floods, which struck on Monday, submerged nearly half of Maiduguri, causing significant loss of life and property. In response, the Borno State Government has established 36 camps to accommodate the thousands of displaced individuals.
Earlier, President Tinubu had sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to assess the situation and announce the federal government’s donation of N30 billion to support recovery efforts.
