The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has revealed that there will be no grand celebration to mark President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office. Instead, low-key activities will be held to commemorate the anniversary.
During a World Press conference on Wednesday May 22, as part of the activities for President Tinubu’s one year in office, Minister Idris stated that there will be no form of extravagant celebrations due to the current mood of the nation.
He stated that the focus will be on sectoral briefings rather than elaborate festivities. Minister Idris reiterated the importance of the media as a critical stakeholders in Nigeria’s development and urged journalist to report responsibly and with a deep sense of patriotism.
Highlighting the significance of press freedom, the Minister acknowledged that President Tinubu, being a product of democracy, values the freedom of the press. He assured that the government is committed to keeping the public informed about uits policies and achievements.
In response to a question, Minister Idris appealed to the media to collaborate with the government in combating the spread of fake news, which he described as a more significant threat to the nation than cancer.
