Today marks the release of Tiwa Savage’s highly anticipated soundtrack album for her debut feature film, ‘Water & Garri’. The film, produced by Everything Savage and Unbound Studio, is also available today on Amazon Prime Video alongside the soundtrack, distributed through EMPIRE.
The captivating soundtrack album, curated by Savage herself, features ten original songs blending Afropop, R&B, and Hip Hop with notable collaborations. Grammy-nominated artists Olamide and Ayra Starr, Nigerian singer-songwriter ASA, Cameroonian multi-instrumentalist Richard Bona, gospel artist Zacardi Cortez, and rising talents like Black Sherif, Young Jonn, Mystro Sugar, and The Cavemen all contribute to the album.
Variety magazine praised the soundtrack’s immersive experience, highlighting Tiwa’s signature overtone-singing and the use of live instrumentation and ambient effects across genres including Afrobeat, Afropop, amapiano, R&B, gospel, and hints of mainstream trap and pop.

Speaking about the project, Tiwa Savage shared, “People expect a certain sound from me, but in doing a soundtrack, I could experiment. African culture, I either put it in my fashion or put it in my music, always. It’s because it’s beautiful to be African.”
‘Water & Garri’ marks a significant milestone in Tiwa’s career, as she takes on her first lead role in a feature film and serves as its Executive Producer. The film and soundtrack intertwine to explore cultural shifts and personal reflections, with Tiwa portraying Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer returning to her hometown ‘Eastside’ after a decade in the United States.
Directed by Meji Alabi and filmed in Cape Coast, Ghana, ‘Water & Garri’ features compelling cinematography and storytelling, starring alongside Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde.
In addition to her film debut, Tiwa celebrated the 10th anniversary of her debut album ‘Once Upon A Time’ in July 2023, solidifying her status as one of Africa’s most influential artists. With a string of successful albums and collaborations with global superstars, Tiwa Savage continues to push boundaries and redefine African music on a global scale.
