A heated argument over unpaid rent took a tragic turn this afternoon in the neighborhood of Surulere, Lagos, when a landlord mistakenly pushed his tenant off a storey building, resulting in severe injuries.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. at a residential complex on Ogundele Street. Eyewitnesses reported that the landlord,

Mr. Ajao, had approached his tenant, Mr. Oriafor, demanding payment for several months of overdue rent. The confrontation quickly escalated, with both men exchanging heated words on the building’s first-floor balcony.

Neighbors rushed to the scene and immediately called for medical assistance. Mr. Oriafor was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for multiple fractures and other injuries.

The landlord, Mr. Ajao, was taken into police custody for questioning. He expressed deep regret over the incident, claiming it was a terrible accident. “I never intended for this to happen. It was an unfortunate accident during a moment of anger,” he said.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on Mr. Oriafor’s recovery and ensuring that such incidents are prevented in the future.
