Two laborers, whose identities remain unknown, tragically drowned while trying to retrieve a water bucket from a well in Ile-Ife.

The unfortunate incident took place around 1:09 pm at a construction site opposite Ilesa Motor Park, along the Ife-Ilesa Expressway. These workers were reportedly hired for construction duties in the town on Thursday.

Confirming the tragic event, Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State, stated that personnel from the Corps, alongside members of the Federal Fire Service, recovered the bodies of the deceased laborers from the well.

Adeleke described the incident, which occurred on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at approximately 1:09 pm, opposite Ilesa Motor Park along the Ife-Ilesa road in Ile-Ife.

The two men, both from Iwo, were employed as laborers on a construction project near Ilesa Motor Park. The tragic event unfolded as the men were drawing water from a deep well, and one of them accidentally fell in.

According to daily post, eyewitnesses reported that one of the laborers, while trying to rescue his companion who fell into the well, became trapped and drowned himself.

Tragically, the second worker also met the same fate while attempting a rescue. The NSCDC and Federal Fire Service teams collaborated to recover the bodies of both men from the deep well.
