Nasarawa State witnessed a devastating road accident on August 23, 2024, along the Nasarawa-Keffi highway. The fatal collision involved a fully loaded commercial bus and a mini-bus travelling in opposite directions.

Eyewitnesses reported that the crash occurred when one of the drivers, in an attempt to overtake, lost control and collided head-on with the approaching vehicle.

Four victims died instantly at the scene, while five others succumbed to their injuries shortly after being rushed to nearby hospitals in Keffi and Nasarawa. The survivors are currently receiving critical care at these hospitals, with several in critical condition.

This incident highlights the pressing need for stricter road safety measures and better enforcement of traffic regulations in the region. Local authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and avoid reckless driving, particularly on busy highways like the Nasarawa-Keffi route.

The police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and are appealing to the public to cooperate in ensuring road safety.
