According to reports by Daily Post, a 200-level student from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State allegedly threw her newborn baby from the upper floor of the female hostel shortly after giving birth. A female student at the university have a report about the incident, stating that it occurred on Monday.
She recounted how the residents of the Morocco Female Hostel on the university campus were shocked by the tragic event.
According to her, early Monday morning, they discovered the lifeless body of a newborn baby girl on the ground, having been thrown from a three-story building.
She mentioned that the girl, likely overwhelmed by shame after giving birth out of wedlock, made the heartbreaking decision to conceal her situation in such a tragic manner.
Police spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, verified the incident in a statement provided to DAILY POST. He stated that the police received a report indicating that a 200-level student had given birth and subsequently threw the newborn from a three-story building, leading to the immediate demise of the infant.
Adam mentioned that upon receiving the report, a team of officers swiftly responded to the scene of the incident. They transported both the baby and the mother to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse, where a medical doctor on duty confirmed the infant’s passing.
In the meantime, the suspect has been admitted and is undergoing therapy, according to DSP Shiisu. He also stated that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
