In a heartbreaking incident this afternoon, a young man tragically lost his life due to generator smoke in Abeokuta.
The deceased, identified as 29-year-old Abraham, was found unresponsive in his room by neighbors who immediately raised the alarm.
The unfortunate incident occurred after Abraham, concerned about the heavy rain, decided to move his running generator into a nearby store to protect it from the downpour.
Unknown to him, the store’s proximity to his living quarters posed a deadly risk. The fumes from the generator infiltrated his room, leading to his untimely demise.
Emergency services arrived swiftly at the scene but were unable to revive him. Medical personnel confirmed that the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning, a common danger associated with operating generators in enclosed spaces.
Local authorities have since issued a public safety warning, urging residents to ensure that generators are operated in well-ventilated areas and never indoors or in confined spaces.
