A heartbreaking incident occurred in the Ketu area of Lagos State yesterday, where a young child was tragically swept away by floodwaters following heavy rainfall.

Eyewitnesses reported that the child, a six-year-old girl, was trying to find her way home around the flood waters when the sudden downpour began.

The intense rain quickly caused the drainage canal to overflow, creating a dangerous situation. Despite efforts by nearby residents to rescue her, the strong currents proved too powerful.

Local authorities and emergency services were immediately alerted and have since launched a search and rescue operation. However, as of this morning, the child has not yet been found. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning.

Speaking to reporters, a resident expressed their sorrow and frustration, emphasizing the need for better flood control measures in the area. “This is a tragic loss that could have been prevented with proper infrastructure. Our hearts go out to the family.”

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has urged residents to stay away from flood-prone areas during heavy rains and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to locate the missing child.
