It’s really sad to hear about the loss of lives due to the severe rainstorms and strong winds at the IBB Square in Bauchi State during the North East Trade Fair. The storm, which started last night, tragically claimed the lives of four traders. Two individuals lost their lives at the Gombe and Yobe States pavilions,  many business tents, suffered significant damage within the trade fair complex.

Additionally, two other injured victims passed away later at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH. It’s a devastating situation, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragedy.

The Bauchi Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, officially confirmed the incident in a statement provided to journalists on Sunday.

He mentioned the names of the individuals who tragically lost their lives in the event: Abdullahi Abubakar, 38 from Yakubu Wanka; Sadik Ahmed Alfa, 32 from Fadaman Mada; Malam Musa from Maliya Furnitures Tudun Salmanu; and Abdulaziz Abdulrahman from Gombe State. Additionally, he stated that Fatima Isa, 31 from Inkil, is currently undergoing medical treatment and is showing positive signs of recovery.

SP Ahmed Wakil also shared that after the incident, emergency response teams, led by the police and other security agencies, promptly launched search and rescue operations.

Sadly, five people were found trapped under the collapsed structures and were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
