A tragic single-vehicle accident occurred at Kere, Itori, along the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos road at around 11 p.m. on Saturday, involving a white Toyota Camry with the registration number AGL36JA. The crash resulted in the deaths of two children and left seven other passengers injured.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attributed the accident to overloading and excessive speed. Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC, confirmed the incident in a statement released to journalists on Sunday.
According to the statement, FRSC operatives from the Itori Unit Command responded promptly to the scene, providing rescue assistance.
The injured victims, including seven male adults and the two children, were rushed to the Ifo General Hospital for medical treatment. Sadly, the bodies of the deceased were also taken to the same hospital’s morgue.
“The suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed and overloading. The car was overloaded with passengers,” Okpe stated.
Reacting to the incident, Ogun State Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin expressed deep concern over the crash, condemning the disregard for safety shown by the driver and passengers.
Fasakin emphasized the dangers of overloading vehicles and urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wished those injured a swift recovery.
