Two persons have been confirmed dead following a fuel-laden tanker explosion that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the tanker, which was carrying diesel, overturned while the driver attempted to avoid colliding with another vehicle on the Old Lagos/Asaba Road.

This led to a massive explosion that consumed several houses, cars, and other properties in the vicinity.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, revealed in a statement that the victims—a man and a woman—lost their lives in the tragic incident.

He also clarified that the tanker was carrying diesel, contrary to earlier reports suggesting it was loaded with petrol.

Authorities are working to assess the extent of damage and provide support to those affected.
