Gunmen in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, have fatally shot two police officers on duty. An eyewitness reported that the armed assailants also injured a passerby at the Ama-John junction on Okigwe Road before fleeing the scene.

The attack occurred yesterday morning, catching the on-duty officers off guard and causing widespread panic in the area. As a result, motorists and passengers along the busy Okigwe road hastily retreated due to fear of further violence.

This morning, shortly after 6:00 am, Akabo (Ama-John) area along Okigwe road experienced intense panic as a group of bandits shot and killed two policemen on duty and a passerby.

The attackers, four gunmen in a Sienna bus, quickly fled towards Okigwe after the assault. Presently, the road remains deserted as drivers and passengers have stopped their journey to allow the situation to settle.

When contacted, Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Imo State police command, mentioned he has not yet received information regarding the incident
