The University of Benin has appointed Professor Edoba Omoregie, a noted expert in constitutional law and governance, as its new Vice-Chancellor.

The announcement was made on Friday in Benin by Professor Shaibu Umaru, the Chairman of the university’s Governing Council. He revealed that Omoregie was selected from a pool of 27 candidates vying for the prestigious position, making him the 11th Vice-Chancellor in the university’s history.

Professor Omoregie, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, will succeed Professor Lillian Salami, whose tenure concludes on December 1.

Born on April 5, 1969, in Benin, Professor Omoregie is an alumnus of the University of Benin, where he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 and earned the distinguished title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2021.
