In a move to ensure quality and consistency in education across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmou, has pledged to enforce the standardization of curriculum implementation in all schools within the nation’s capital.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Kia Lakeside Academy in Wuye, Abuja, Mahmou, who was represented by the Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Shuaibu Emmanuel, emphasized the FCT Administration’s (FCTA) commitment to upholding best practices in the education sector.
“The FCTA has vowed to enforce the standardization of implementation of the curriculum in schools across the FCT,” Mahmou stated, underscoring the critical role of the Department of Quality Assurance and Universal Basic Education in ensuring that teachers adhere to the prescribed curriculum and meet the required standards.
The minister’s pledge comes at a time when the FCT, like many other parts of the country, has experienced a significant influx of people from various states, driven by factors such as insecurity. This demographic shift has placed increased pressure on the education system, necessitating a concerted effort to maintain quality and consistency.
“The FCTA alone cannot provide all the educational needs of the increasingly rising population of Abuja,” Mahmou acknowledged, highlighting the vital role played by the private sector in supplementing the government’s efforts.
Kia Lakeside Academy, the host of the graduation ceremony, was commended by the minister for its contribution to meeting the educational needs of the FCT’s growing population. Mahmou emphasized the importance of private schools in the region, stating that “the easiest way to destroy and cripple a country is not through bombs or rockets, but by simply watering down the content of what is taught in schools.”
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Zuberu Abdullahi, echoed the minister’s sentiments, underscoring the theme of the event, “Trailblazers of Tomorrow,” as a call to action. Abdullahi stressed the limitless potential of the graduating students and the critical role of education in navigating the rapidly evolving global landscape.
