Tragedy struck today in Ekiti State as a university student drowned during a friend’s birthday celebration at a local swimming pool.

The deceased, identified as Ogudu Peter, a student of Mechanical Engineering at Ekiti State University, had reportedly left his lecture class early to join friends in celebrating a classmate’s birthday at a nearby resort.

According to eyewitnesses, the group was enjoying the afternoon when Peter, who was not an experienced swimmer, decided to take a dip in the pool. Despite warnings from his friends, he ventured into the deep end. Within minutes, he was seen struggling to stay afloat.

Efforts to rescue him were immediate, but unfortunately, they proved futile. Lifeguards and friends pulled him out of the water and attempted to revive him before rushing him to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
