Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised the enduring cultural heritage of the Akure Kingdom, which has been preserved for centuries.

His commendation came during a visit to pay respects to the paramount ruler of Akure, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ogunlade Aladelusi (Odundun II), at his palace in Akure.

Shettima’s visit coincided with the grand finale rally supporting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his running mate, Dr. Olayide Adelami, ahead of the upcoming Ondo governorship election scheduled for Saturday.

During his address, the Vice President expressed that Akure stands as a proud symbol of the strength found in heritage and unity, highlighting the kingdom’s historical significance and its inspirational role within the nation.

“This gathering place, preserved through the ages, represents a cornerstone of cultural integrity and continuity,” Shettima remarked. “The palace, a remarkable structure over 850 years old, serves as a testament to Akure’s unwavering strength and elegance throughout generations.”

He acknowledged that under Oba Aladelusi’s leadership, Akure continues to play a vital role in the cultural narrative of Nigeria. “Your Majesty, I approach you with not only admiration but deep respect. I recognize the profound history that envelops this palace and your esteemed title.”

As he addressed the monarch, Shettima emphasized, “As you guide the people of Akure today, remember that this kingdom stands as a beacon of inspiration for our nation.”

The Vice President also recognized the traditional ruler’s dedication to fostering peace, stating, “Wisdom and tradition illuminate the path for a nation striving for a cohesive identity amidst its diversity.”

He concluded his remarks by affirming that Akure’s legacy of heritage and unity remains vital to the nation’s cultural identity. “May your reign, like those of your ancestors before you, continue to be a source of pride, strength, and unity for the people of Akure and the entire nation,” Shettima prayed.
