A video of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, making a gaffe during a campaign rally at Ovia North Local Government Area on Thursday has gone viral.
In the video, which began trending on Saturday and has been widely shared across social media platforms, Okpebholo mistakenly said, “We’re going to provide you with insecurity.” Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo-North and former governor of the state, who was standing beside Okpebholo on the podium, quickly signaled to him, prompting the candidate to correct himself.
The incident has sparked online discussions, with some questioning Okpebholo’s readiness for leadership. One commentator remarked, “This slip is a reflection of deeper issues; how prepared is he to lead a state like Edo?” Others, however, have dismissed the mistake as a minor error. “It’s just a slip of the tongue,” said another social media user. “Politicians are human too.”
As of the time of this report, neither the APC nor Okpebholo’s campaign team has issued a statement regarding the development.
The upcoming governorship election, scheduled for September 21, features Okpebholo in a tight race against 16 other candidates, including Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.
