A yet-to-be-specified number of corps members deployed to Ekiti State have sustained varying injuries after a section of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Ise-Emure, Ekiti, collapsed.
Reports obtained on Friday revealed that the wall of the female section of the hostel collapsed in the morning.
“The wall of one of the female hostels collapsed this morning (Friday). It was the bathroom wall which caved in when they were planning to take their bath.
“But thank God, people rushed down there to retrieve them from the rubble. They have been stabilized at the clinic, and they will get further medical treatments,” thepaan quoted a source as saying.
Corps members are currently at the orientation camp and are required to stay for a mandatory three-week period.
A representative from the NYSC confirmed the wall collapse to journalists and assured that only a couple of corps members were involved and had received medical attention at the camp’s clinic.
He urged parents, guardians, and other concerned parties not to be alarmed by the incident, emphasizing that it did not have any significant adverse effects on the corps members.
There have been complaints about the substandard facilities at the NYSC Camp in the region. However, there has been a lack of sufficient renovations.
