Eye boogers are those little crusty bits you find in the corners of your eyes when you wake up.
They are made of tiny pieces of dirt, mucus (a sticky, gooey substance), and oil that your eyes produce to stay clean and healthy.
Why Do We Get Eye Boogers?
During the day, your eyes make tears to wash away dirt and keep your eyes moist. When you blink, the tears spread across your eyes. But when you sleep, your eyes don’t make as many tears and you don’t blink. This lets the dirt and mucus build up in the corners of your eyes, forming eye boogers.
How to Take Care of Eye Boogers
1. Keep Clean: If you have eye boogers, you can gently wipe them away with a clean tissue or a soft cloth. Always wash your hands first!
2. Drink Water: Drinking water helps keep your eyes moist and healthy.
3. Avoid Touching Eyes: Try not to touch or rub your eyes with dirty hands because that can make more eye boogers and even hurt your eyes.
4. Ask for Help: If your eyes hurt, are very red, or the eye boogers are green or yellow, tell an adult. Sometimes, it means your eyes need special care from a doctor.
Eye boogers are normal and help keep our eyes clean while we sleep. Just remember to keep your hands and face clean, and your eyes will stay happy and healthy!
