Governor Uba Sani has reiterated that a clean environment is the cornerstone of a robust healthcare system, which is why his administration has made substantial investments in sanitation.

In a press statement, Alhaji Abubakar Buba, the Commissioner for Environment, highlighted that the government’s financial commitment to cleanliness is already yielding positive results.

Alhaji Abubakar praised Cleanup Nigeria for recognizing Kaduna State as the cleanest subnational in the North West zone, as reflected in their latest report. This recognition, he noted, is a testament to the ongoing efforts to improve the state’s sanitation.

The report, released in Cleanup Nigeria’s 7th edition of the State of Nigerian Environment (STONE), revealed that only nine states scored 40% or higher, with Kaduna leading the North West zone. In the same report, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Lagos, Plateau, and Borno were named the cleanest states in their respective zones.

Explaining why Kaduna State earned the top spot, Alhaji Abubakar pointed to the significant financial investment of N204 million per month spent by the government to maintain the city’s cleanliness. He expressed confidence that this recognition would further motivate the Ministry of Environment to intensify its efforts.

The Commissioner also noted that the Uba Sani administration has employed 2,400 street sweepers who ensure daily cleaning in major cities across the state. This initiative is a joint effort between the state and local governments, sharing the financial burden.

Alhaji Abubakar concluded by sharing that the Uba Sani-led government is focused on advancing waste-to-wealth initiatives, including plans to generate revenue from recycling. He emphasized that the state is actively engaging with investors to turn waste into a valuable resource for Kaduna’s economy.
