Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, has temporarily paused its recent price hike for Nigerian subscribers.

This decision follows Starlink’s nearly doubled increase in monthly subscription costs for its standard residential package—from N38,000 to N75,000. Additionally, the hardware price had risen from N440,000 to N590,000.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) later indicated that Starlink had not obtained regulatory approval before implementing these changes and announced a pre-enforcement action against the company.

On Thursday, Starlink informed customers of the suspension, attributing the move to “regulatory challenges.” The company clarified that the initial price increase aimed to offset inflation and support continued service quality.

Customers who already paid the higher rate will receive a one-time credit for the difference, and they also retain the option to cancel their subscription anytime.

In its message, Starlink reiterated its commitment to delivering high-speed internet across Nigeria but highlighted the need for regulatory support to sustain and enhance service quality.

“Without these approvals, our ability to continue delivering service is at risk,” the company noted. As a result of this adjustment, Starlink’s website now shows the standard residential plan reverted to N38,000, while the mobile regional plan has been reduced to N50,000, down from N167,000. However, the hardware cost remains unchanged at N590,000.
