The political issues in Rivers State has continued to escalate, with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, publicly accusing former Governor Peter Odili of aligning himself with current Governor Siminalayi Fubara rather than acting as a mediator to resolve the ongoing disputes.
Wike made these remarks during a thanksgiving service held in Port Harcourt on Sunday to honor Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The event took place at the Church of the Holy Spirit Anglican Church and attracted prominent political figures from various parties, including Victor Giadom, the APC South-South National Vice Chairman, and Rivers PDP Chairman Aron Chukwuemeka.
In his speech, the Speaker expressed his thankfulness for his political journey thus far. However, Wike’s focus was on addressing the political crisis in the state, specifically targeting Odili for what he perceives as a lack of support. He lamented that Odili has chosen to side with Fubara against him, questioning the former governor’s impartiality.
Wike reflected on the contributions he has made to Odili’s career and expressed confusion over the perceived bias. This conflict arises just a day after Odili publicly commended Fubara for his noteworthy advancements in governance, further intensifying the rift between the two political figures.
