Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has clarified his motivations for advocating the removal of Uche Secondus as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Secondus, a veteran politician, served as the chairman of the PDP National Working Committee starting in 2017, before being suspended from the party in 2021.
Speaking to his supporters and fellow party members in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike asserted that he pushed for Secondus’s ouster due to his intention to endorse Tele Ikuru as a candidate for the governorship of Rivers State.
Wike expressed that he holds no regrets about his decision to remove Secondus from his position.
He stated, “Why did we remove Secondus? We did it because he aimed to bring in his cousin, Tele Ikuru. We had to say, ‘Enough is enough, who do you think you are?’”
Wike continued, “I have no regrets about this action. It is a fact. We removed him. I’ve heard some party leaders questioning how a ward chairman could dismiss a national chairman.”
He clarified, “No ward chairman actually removed a national chairman. What happened was a suspension from the party. If you’re suspended, how can you retain that position? People need to understand the facts better.”
